I was born in Port Elizabeth and privileged to be raised by adventurous parents who exposed us to art and culture from a young age. We travelled a lot, went camping, climbed mountains, rode horses and attended art exhibitions. This and the small farm I grew up on were largely the inspiration to my creativity. My Mother encouraged me with art classes from the age of 9 years where I discovered my flair for color and design.
It's impossible not to be inspired by the magnificence of God's creation. Look around you; the diversity of colors, textures, smells, sounds, life forms.... the list is endless. Top of the list for me would be color, which is the essence of all my works. Hence my daughter, Liza named me Queen of Color. And this I am!
When I was five, I knitted myself a jersey. This was my first creative project. I then went onto drawing and painting from the age of 9 years. Followed by mosaic, large scale recycled mobiles, lino printing, collage and ceramics. My greatest love was textile design which kept me busy for 15 years and is evident in all of my works. Thereafter I threw myself into Contemporary painting which is where I find myself now. And I am loving it.
